Maluma and J Balvin Drop ‘Gafas Negras’: Watch

“Proud of you because you’re hard, you’ve never stopped, you push forward, and you’ve become like my little brother,” Balvin says in the video for “Gafas Negras”

Two of reggaetón’s greatest are joining forces for the first time in nearly five years. Maluma released his single “Gafas Negras” with J Balvin on Friday, along with its music video.

“Thank you J Balvin for being part of this Don Juan era and for believing in this chimba roject,” Maluma wrote on Instagram with a clip of the visual. He also shared a throwback photo of the pair early in their careers on his Instagram story.

The Tes Pimienta-directed video opens with Balvin performing the song as he approaches a stage before Maluma — dressed in a purple suit and arriving in a purple Ferrari — shows up to hug Balvin. The mostly black-and-white video captures the pair of performers singing the track in a nightclub as the crowd poses with sunglasses of their own.

The visual ends with Balvin congratulating Maluma for his success. “I wanted to congratulate you. I’m so proud of what you’ve done. Proud of you because you’re hard, you’ve never stopped, you push forward, and you’ve become like my little brother,” Balvin says in the video.

Back in October, the pair of reggaetoneros snapped a photo together at dinner alongside Britney Spears. (Around that time, Maluma revealed his girlfriend Susana Gomez is expecting a baby in the video for Procura.)

It’s been a handful of years since the two Colombian stars joined forces on a song. They dropped “Qué Pena” in 2019, joined Nicky Jam and Ozuna on a remix of “X” in 2018, and sang on Feid’s “Porfa Remix” in 2020.

“Gafas Negras” was added to Maluma’s Don Juan album, which dropped last year. The LP featured songs like “Coco Loco,” “Sobrio,” and “Según Quien” with Carin Leon. Since then Maluma has joined Anuel AA on “OA” and GIMS on “Si Te Llamo.” As for Balvin, he dropped several singles last year including “Amigos,” “Let’s Go” with Will.i.am,” “Colmillo” with Tainy and Young Miko, and “Dientes” with Usher and DJ Khaled.
