NYC Listings Under a Million: Greenwich Village, Inwood

This alcove studio on West 10th has a very Greenwich Village view from its large windows, as shown in listing photos.

For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We’re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.

We’ve found you a lovely Beekman Terrace studio across the street from Riverhouse and a very cute Tudor house in Kingsbridge.

3226 Tibbett Ave.

This 1930s Tibbett Avenue house not only has a nice amount of space but also front and back porches and yards, as shown in the listing photos.

This charming Tudor house in the Bronx has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths, with a top floor that could serve as a fourth bedroom and a home office. The 1930s home has original details — hardwood floors, dining room built-ins, a brick fireplace mantle — but it could use some work. There’s also a kitchenette and another bath in the basement, front and back yards, and a driveway. Kingsbridge, which abuts Spuyten Duyvil and Marble Hill, is served by the nearby 1 train (or the bus).

98 Park Terrace, #1D

An abundance of built-ins, a generous foyer and hall, and a separate galley kitchen help this Inwood studio, shown in the listing photo, seem larger than 500 square feet.

This 500-square-foot studio makes the most of the space it has, with a closet-lined foyer, abundant cabinetry, and a living room with a built-in Murphy bed and modular workspace. There’s a separate galley kitchen so you don’t have to go to sleep staring at the refrigerator and a bathroom renovated with subway tile, marble and nickel finishes. Located on the first floor, but the listing notes that the first floor is raised so that the apartment is above street level, offering a touch more privacy.

45 West 10th Street, #3J

This West 10th Street studio, with a renovated kitchen area and bathroom, shown in listing photos, is located in a full-service Greenwich Village building.

This mid-century alcove studio is fairly compact — the kitchen and living room are in the same big room, and the sleeping alcove off the living room, at just under five feet wide, isn’t quite large enough to accommodate a queen bed. But the apartment is newly renovated, the big windows look out at the top floors of nearby rowhouses, and the co-op building is full-service, has a large roof deck, and allows pied-à-terres, co-purchases, and parents buying for children. You’re also in Greenwich Village, which is, of course, very nice.

444 East 52nd Street, #8B

This pre-war studio, shown in listing photos, is located across the Street from River House and has a view of the East River from the picture window.

Located on a cul-de-sac between Beekman and Sutton places, this elegant studio is on the eighth floor of a full-service pre-war co-op across the street from Riverhouse. The foyer has two large closets with the original paneled, mirrored doors. There’s a picture window with a view of the East River, a wood-burning fireplace, and a windowed bathroom. The only real downside is that the very cute kitchen, tucked into a corner of the main room behind folding doors, is teeny tiny. But maybe you’re not much of a cook.
