The late-night show will broadcast live from the Auditorium Theatre for one week in August
The Late Show is hitting the road. Stephen Colbert announced the late-night talk show will broadcast live from the Auditorium Theatre during this year’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which takes place Aug. 19-22.
The host announced the news on Wednesday night’s edition of the show, confirming that a week of episodes would be filmed live in Chicago during the convention. “For one week, The Late Show will be broadcasting from the 130 year old Auditorium Theater,” he said. “It is absolutely gorgeous and so creatively named. The Auditorium Theater is right next to the Cafeteria Restaurant, and, of course, the historic Rooms Hotel.”
“I lived in Chicago for 11 years, and it holds a special place in my heart — and not because of all the Polish sausage lodged in my aorta,” Colbert added. “Chicago is where I cut my teeth performing at the Second City, and it’s also where this South Carolina boy got an education in winter. Did you know that tears can freeze? I didn’t know that before I lived there! You gotta keep blinking. So, get ready Chicago, because this summer it’s the return of daaaaaaaa Colbert.”
In a statement, he added, “I am very excited to broadcast from the beautiful Auditorium. I started my career in Chicago, let’s see if I can end it there.”
The Republican National Convention is set for Milwaukee in July, however The Late Show will continue to broadcast from New York City during the event. The series confirmed it will announce guests during both conventions in the weeks to come. The show also broadcast live during the political conventions for both parties in 2016 and 2020.
